Sometimes people are born with a very small ear, ear remnants, or the complete absence of an ear. There are two main treatment options to reconstruct this type of ear abnormality. The more common technique is to create an ear out of cartilage taken from the patient's ribs. This is performed in stages and is coordinated with an audiologist and otologist to achieve optimal results. The second option is to have a prosthetic ear fabricated by a Maxillofacial Prosthodontist which is secured in place with bone implants. Dr. Ciminello will discuss the pros and cons of each technique with you at your consultation.
